Run

Published on October 6th, 2011 by

I’ve never, ever been a runner. Even when I ran (ok, there was a lot of walking) a half marathon for charity. I never enjoyed running for the sake of running. I love playing basketball and other sports that have a strong element of running, but never liked running. Running wasn’t in my comfort zone.

Compare

Published on October 5th, 2011 by

In the past, I’ve wasted a lot of time and energy comparing myself to others when it comes to health and physical appearance: “I wish I was built like that guy” “I wish I was as healthy as her” “I can’t squat as much weight as that guy” “My bench isn’t as good as his”

Hope

Many people don’t like The Biggest Loser, saying it exploits overweight people, the workouts they perform can’t be done in the real world and that their diets are easy to follow because everything is cooked for them. While all of this may be true, I love watching The Biggest Loser. This post isn’t trying to

Published on April 7th, 2011 by

Guilt (as defined on Wikipedia) is an emotional experience that occurs when a person realizes or believes—accurately or not—that he or she has violated a moral standard, and bears significant responsibility for that violation. I feel guilty when I eat a meal that I know is bad for me or drink too many beers. I

Weight Lifting for Weight Loss

Published on March 25th, 2011 by

I see people spending a lot of time on cardio equipment. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but weight lifting is just as effective to burn calories. As an added bonus, when you build muscle, you’ll naturally burn calories as muscle consume calories to remain strong. When I talk to people about weight lifting for

This post is a bit random as its basically a dump of thoughts I have on exercise, weight loss and the use of  Polar Heart Rate Monitor. I was at a family gathering with my wife’s family over the last weekend where I saw many of her family members that I haven’t seen in a

You look great!!” Me: “Thanks!” Them: “What are you doing” Me: “Living” Them: “I mean, what are you doing to lose weight” Me: “Living” Them: “How are you losing weight” Me: “By living an active and healthy lifestyle” When I first started on my

Putting It To The Test

Published on March 1st, 2011 by

Losing weight, getting healthy and fit are great in and of themselves. I feel great, I feel healthy, but I wasn’t sure how to find out how well my fitness has improved. If I took some sort of fitness test, I would be a baseline of where I am at now and wouldn’t give me

They’re Missing the Boat

Published on February 22nd, 2011 by

Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed several commercials from leading athletic performance companies (Nike, Under Armour, Reebok, Adidas etc) that all target the same market. All of these companies are targeting the in-shape, fit athletes. And, to be honest, it makes sense. They manufacture performance apparel, they are endorsed by professional athletes, and they

Sharing The Wealth

Published on January 26th, 2011 by

When I embarked on my weight loss journey, I knew nothing about losing weight. I knew nothing of how he body uses food. I knew nothing about exercise. I knew nothing! The good news is that there are hundreds (and probably thousands) of people out there willing to share their knowledge. They share in the
