About Me

My name is Jon and I’m trying to lose weight, live a healthy lifestyle and be awesome at all times. In February of 2010, I weighed in at the heaviest I have ever weighed. I stepped on the scale and it told me I weighed 254 pounds. This was a tough day for me. I had never been that heavy in my life. I knew I had to do something. I started this blog to document my journey as I lose weight. I wanted a place where I could write down my struggles, my victories, the things I have learned along the way.

I grew up in a suburb of Denver, playing sports all through high school. When I went to college, the organized sports were over for me, and I had no physical activity to keep me fit. I was beginning to pack on the pounds. As I mentioned, I weighed 254 pounds in February 2010. I set an initial goal to get to 200 pounds and maintain it. There are several reasons why I want to get healthy, but my main motivation is to be healthy for my family. My wife and I have a 3 year old, and I want to be fit for the both of them. I want to be fit for my wife. I don’t want to have sleep apnea anymore. I don’t want to sleep with the aid of a machine anymore. I don’t want to be borderline diabetic. I don’t want gout controlling me anymore. I want a normal, healthy and fit life. I’ve tried dieting off and on for several years, and I always seem to do well for a month or so. Then I fall back into habits that made me heavy in the first place. This time its different. I’m tired of it. I want to change my life.

I was able to lose 54 pounds and hit my goal of weighing 200. Unfortunately, this was short lived. I was eating right and exercising regularly, but then my son was born in July of 2011. Everything came to a halt. By the time I looked in the mirror, I had put on 31 of those 54 pounds. Disgusted with myself, I put on my big boy pants and started back on the journey. I am more determined and motivated than ever to get to 200 again and stay there!

This blog is not exactly a workout/exercise blog, so why did I call this blog “Extreme Workout”? Because trying to balance work, family, friends with being healthy and exercising is an Extreme Workout. Because trying to live a happy life is an Extreme Workout. Because Life, with all of its complexities, trials and challenges is an Extreme Workout! I am also an avid obstacle course racer, and those are Extreme Workouts!
