As a Propel Ambassador, I was asked to travel to Los Angeles for a photo shoot. In the weeks leading up to the trip, I was really excited. However, as the trip got closer, I was nervous for no known reason. I didn’t know what to expect from the trip. I knew that I would be meeting fellow ambassadors (Lee, Presley, Theodora, Dai) and was very excited for that, but that was really the only detail I had (other than they would be taking pictures of us). As soon as I landed at LAX, the nerves subsided and the excitement returned.
Lee and I were picked up from LAX and made the short trip to the rented house. As soon as I crossed the front door threshold, I knew this weekend was going to be awesome. As you can see in the picture below, the house we were calling home for the next four days is amazing.
Thursday night was laid back as we hung out around the house and got to know each other. It’s always great to meet likeminded people and make new friends! Thursday night was filled with introductions, a discussion about the schedule for the rest of the weekend, relaxing and drinking Propel. The house was stocked full of Propel, there was Propel everywhere around the house which was awesome. As the evening progressed, more and more people joined us at the house, including personal chefs. I’ve never had the opportunity to experience life with personal chefs, but I know this…it’s freaking amazing to have chefs making your meals. Not only were our meals healthy, but they were unbelievably delicious.
After a good night’s sleep, we awoke Friday to the chefs preparing breakfast. Before we ate, we went for a run in Coldwater Canyon. This was a great little trail run and it was nice to get the blood flowing in the morning. After breakfast, we had a couple hours of downtime to enjoy the pool, the sun and the company. After relaxing a bit, we loaded up and headed to the location of our first photo shoot. I had no idea what I was in for. The location was a fitness and tennis club and had everything you would ever need when it comes to fitness. Multiple tennis courts, swimming pools, exercise rooms, spin room, and all the equipment you need. There was a room that was being used as makeup and wardrobe. There were racks and racks of fitness clothing and more shoes that I’ve seen outside of a shoe store. They had me sit in a chair where I had my first experience with makeup! Once they got me looking as good as they possibly could, I was handed the clothes I would be wearing for the first shoot.
We started with a quick warmup led by a trainer at the gym that was designed to get our blood pumping and sweat pouring. Once we all had our positions on the spin bikes, it was time to start taking pictures. This particular shoot went for about three hours. I am very impressed by the meticulous detail, eye for perfection and thoughtfulness that goes into getting the perfection shot. It was cool to see what goes into a photo shoot and hear discussions about how to tweak each shot to get the photo they were looking for. Fortunately, we got the shot and headed back to the house to relax and eat yet another amazing dinner.
Saturday brought us to a new location and a day filled of photo shoots and working out. We arrived at the Burbank Athletic Club ready for an action packed day. I was shuffled to makeup and wardrobe once again and was ready to be in front of the camera. Today was interesting as everyone had their individual photo shoot based on the fitness routine that they are most known for. The production team and I headed to a neighborhood street that they had previous scouted for my running shoot. Again, it’s amazing to me the amount of detail and thought that goes into getting the perfect shot. I gotta say, I nailed it! I don’t actually know that, but in my mind I felt like I killed it! Along with the photo shoot, they also took a ton of video of each of us. Each one of the ambassadors has their own video where we talk about fitness, what it means to us and how we weave it into our everyday lives.
After my photo shoot, I was done for the day and was able to enjoy having a gym all to ourselves. As the other ambassadors did their thing in front of the camera, I was able to get a great workout in and enjoy the day. I could really get used to this life! Day 2 of shooting wrapped up with another amazing meal at the house and time to hang out and chat with a lot of really cool people.
Sunday started with yet another great meal prepared by professional personal chefs. After breakfast, we headed to the location for the third and final day of photo shoots. This location was different from the previous two days as it was an actual film studio instead of a fitness club or gym. I was amazed once again as the crew transformed what appeared to be an open space into a yoga studio. I’m amazed at the talent and vision of the crew we worked with over the weekend.
I only had to do a couple of voiceovers for the video they shot of me, so I was free to hang out and observe the whole day. We also had a special guest hanging out with us all day; none other than Gunnar Peterson! Gunnar is down-to-earth, funny and really cool to talk to. Gunnar made himself accessible to us and answered every question we threw his way. Hanging out and chatting with Gunnar was an honor and something I will remember.
All good things must come to an end and this amazing experience is no exception. I flew from LA to Denver Sunday night, but not without memories and new friends. This whole experience is something that I never thought I would be a part of, but I’m so glad that I was able to experience it. I truly enjoyed spending four days in California and taking in the whole experience. I met so many great people and made a lot of new friends. Being a Propel Ambassador is allowing me to work with a great company that has a great product as well as with great people. The 2014 Propel Ambassadors are top notch and I’m proud and stoked to be a part of it.
